Starting off the 007GB 2024 events season on Saturday 3 February, we had a 24-carat celebration of the film Goldfinger.
Firstly, many of us attended a screening of the film at the Prince Charles Cinema, just off Leicester Square. Then members hopped across London to an actual former bank vault, beneath the streets of the Leadenhall area of the City.
We had in attendance at both events Oscar-winner Norman Wanstall, sound editor on the 1964 film. He not only brought along his Goldfinger award statuette but also signed posters and memorabilia for every single attendee. There were even gold bars featuring a selection of gold-themed treats.
All of this was provided at no additional charge and announced only after all the tickets were sold! It’s safe to say that every 007GB club event always ends up expanding in the time between us selling the tickets and delivering the event! This was one of the fastest-selling events we have ever put on and we wish we could have had more members in attendance, but special venues such as this have a limited capacity.
Everyone who was fast enough to snap up a ticket had a fantastic time. We even had members fly from as far as Canada to attend, just for this event!
The evening had a fancy dress competition, own by Alan Stephenson is and incredible dinner jacket (photo above with David Lowbridge-Ellis). Then, once again we had the incomparable Martine Beswick with us. Also featured was a raffle and an auction, both of which raised additional funds for our chosen charity UNICEF. Just over £1,500 was raised on the night!
All who attended had a fantastic time, and it started off 007GB’s year with a bang, rather like the pre-titles sequence of Goldfinger itself!
