The first 007GB event of 2025 took place in Edinburgh on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of April. On the afternoon of Saturday, we held an exclusive 60th anniversary screening of Thunderball with special guest Martine Beswicke.
Approximately 40 members and guests joined us at the Scotsman Picturehouse, a beautiful boutique cinema within the gorgeous Scotsman Hotel. Guest enjoyed drinks upon arrival, with many a cocktail being poured. Prior to the film, Martine held an autograph session, including signing copies of a her recently published memoirs.
We also ran a charity raffle for UNICEF, and once again raised hundreds of pounds towards the cause.
Everyone headed through to the screen for a Q&A with Martine, led by 007GB President Phil Dewhurst. Martine had everyone engaged and laughing with her anecdotes of her time working on the film. Then, the lights went down and the everyone enjoyed seeing Thunderball on the big screen, many for the first time!
The event went off without a hitch and everyone enjoyed themselves. Some even left laden down with raffle prizes. In the evening, club members met back up in the Hide Bar at the Scotsman Hotel and chatted for several hours about Bond and beyond.
On the Sunday morning, 007GB Vice-President Miles Winterburn led an intrepid group on a walking tour to the Fountainbridge area of the city. We visited various locations where Sean Connery worked before becoming Bond, and the site of the memorial plaque near where his childhood home used to stand. It was an excellent way to end Operation Caplan.
