What an event! One member, for who this was their first 007GB event, said it was “off the scale” and we don’t think anyone who was there would disagree. It was totally worth all of the months of planning and organisation.
Our charity gala at Concorde Conference Centre in Manchester was an evening no attendee will ever forget. In addition to all of the fun and frivolities, we raised a very serious sum – £16,590.50 – for UNICEF. This brings our overall fundraising total to £47,113.92 (including Gift Aid) – most definitely not bad for a club which has only been in existence for 18 months!
This event was headlined by screen siren Luciana Paluzzi, who stirred and shook Thunderball viewers as the flame-haired villainess Fiona Volpe, and Hollywood’s greatest stuntman, the Academy Award-winning Vic Armstrong, who has doubled for not only James Bond but Indiana Jones and Superman.
The Lord Mayor of the City of Manchester, Councillor Paul Andrews and his wife had a great time with the VIP guests and club members.
Both Luciana and Vic received Lifetime Achievement Awards on this uniquely special evening, with the award-giving taking place during a black-tie dinner served beneath the Concorde itself. Guests could tour the inside of the iconic aircraft and get up close to many other instantly recognisable 007 vehicles. Accompanied by live music throughout, the evening also featured a charity auction, featuring many exclusive items of Bond memorabilia, before guests partied the night away on the dancefloor.
