The second FREE 007GB event of the year was a fantastic success, with more than 60 members heading to the Hippodrome Casino following a screening of the film at the nearby Prince Charles Cinema.
The centrepiece of the evening was a panel discussion about the film and Dalton’s take on the role, hosted by our Editor-in-Chief David Lowbridge-Ellis MBE. The panel he’d assembled consisted of Cary Edwards (author of He Disagreed With Something That Ate Him); Llewella Chapman (author of Fashioning Bond and the BFI Modern Classic From Russia With Love; James Chapman, (author of Licence to Thrill and Dr. No: The First James Bond Film); Steve Clamp (TV news anchor and big Dalton fan) and Alan Church (optical effects artist on The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill).
Everyone loved hearing the different perspectives offered by the panel members and hearing the behind the scenes stories – many of which had never before been told – from Alan Church. Steve brought his mum along as a thank you for sneaking him in to see Licence to Kill when he was underage.
Proving the adage that iguanas are everyone’s best friend, members enjoyed posing photographs with this ultimate in reptilian Licence to Kill accessories (well, stuffed toy versions at least).
Even though Plomo O Plata was on a more intimate scale compared with other 007GB events this year, we still had members travel from across Europe. Everyone who attended declared it to be a fitting celebration of a film whose stature continues to grow and grow.
